Wood Against Wood

Sculptural wooden coffee table with eroded lines and softened edges.

This Lull sculpture is one of the least visually intricate sculptures we have made. Just three volumes. I considered adding more, but it already had enough character.

The contrast does most of the work. The base is red oak and the head is rosa morada. I would not normally place those tones together, which is exactly why I kept them. They should clash a little, but somehow they settle into each other.

What I enjoy most are the unexpected cuts through the curved forms. A line starts moving in one direction, then suddenly changes its mind. That break keeps the sculpture from becoming too calm.
