Grain. Weight. Standing.
Still Stand 24
This Still Stand sculpture was one of the first shapes I explored in this series. It set the tone for everything that came after. This particular piece was made for a very important client, destined for a luxury Asian showroom, so the balance had to feel exact. Calm, but alive. Confident without excess.
The form is built from irregular volumes, stacked with intention rather than symmetry. Each element is slightly different, responding to the one below it. That imbalance creates tension, but never instability. It feels like it is holding itself upright through trust, not force.
The texture of the wood matters as much as the shape. Smooth, but never polished away. You can still read the grain, the density, the direction it grew. Solid Red Oak carries depth and warmth, and I let that speak. This sculpture is about material first. Letting the wood decide part of the outcome. Controlled, but never perfect.
